Southgate Plaza Welcomes Two Major StoresJune 24, 2013
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (June 24, 2013) - A retailer's dream came true recently at Southgate Plaza in Sacramento as hundreds of customers spent the night in the parking lot to be the first to shop at the new 99¢ Only Store. The 99¢ Only Grand Opening celebration specials, including a 40-inch LCD TV for the first nine customers, drew almost 3,000 shoppers on opening day.
The 99¢ Only Store is one of two major retailers which opened within the last month at NewMark Merrill Companies' Southgate Plaza, located at Florin Road and Franklin Boulevard in Sacramento. Anna's Linens, one of the largest U.S. retailers of home décor and textile, also opened last week. Anna's Linens, which operates more than 300 stores throughout the U.S., was founded in 1987 by its current chairman and CEO, Alan Gladstone, and named after Alan's mother, Anna.
NewMark Merrill Companies long term relationships with many tenants, including 99¢ Only and Anna's Linens, continues the impressing leasing activity at Southgate Plaza and other company shopping centers. NewMark Merrill Companies has opened eleven 99¢ Only Stores and five Anna's Linens stores at various shopping centers in the NewMark Merrill portfolio.
"We are excited that Southgate Plaza has the ability to attract such great brands as 99 Cent Only and Anna's Linens, we believe they have what it takes to serve the community's needs," said Sandy Sigal, Chairman and CEO of NewMark Merrill Companies., a full-service retail development and management firm based in Woodland Hills, California. "Anna's Linens and 99¢ Only will be big draws to Southgate Plaza while complementing our current retail mix."
The 99¢ Only Store, which signed a 10-year lease for a 16,400 square foot space at Southgate Plaza, offers deep-discount prices for name brand closeouts and regularly available consumable products, food and beverages. CBRE broker Chris Campbell represented the landlord and Rick Martinez, also of CBRE, was the broker for 99¢ Only. Anna's Linens signed a 10-year lease for the 9,900 square foot Southgate Plaza store. Chris Campbell of CBRE was the broker for the landlord and Ariel Fox of RW Sac, Inc. brokered for Anna's Linens.
The recent leasing at Southgate Plaza signals continuing retail growth at the 365,000-square-foot shopping center. Attracting new retailers has been a top priority since NewMark Merrill Companies assumed management of the center in 2010. 99¢ Only and Anna's Linens join great stores and restaurants at Southgate Plaza such as 99 Ranch Market, Home Town Buffet, Skechers Footwear, McDonald's, Tao Bell, Baskin Robbins and Chase Bank. New enhancements, including a digital reader board, which is frequently used to promote merchant specials, are also attracting tenants to Southgate Plaza.
